Tanana

Tanana, river, east central Alaska, the longest affluent of the Yukon River, 850 km (530 mi) long. It rises in the Wrangell Mountains in southeastern Alaska and flows northwest, entering the Yukon at the city of Tanana. It is navigable (except in winter) for 500 km (310 mi). The city of Fairbanks is situated on the river, and the Alaska Highway follows the river valley.
