Torus, in geometry, a surface generated by rotating a circle around an axis that is in the plane of the circle, but that does not intersect the circle. Common examples of tori are a doughnut, the inner tube of an inflatable tire, and the surface formed by bending a cylinder into a ring. The surface area of a torus equals 4p2kr, and the volume equals 2p2kr2, where r is the radius of the rotating circle and k is the distance from the center of the rotating circle to the axis of rotation.
