Denison

Denison, city, Grayson County, northeastern Texas, near the Red River; incorporated 1891. It is a commercial, manufacturing, and transportation center situated in an agricultural region. Major manufactures include electronic equipment, clothing, processed food, and petroleum and metal products. A junior college and the birthplace of President Dwight Eisenhower are here; Grayson County Airport and Lake Texoma are nearby. A stagecoach stop was established here in 1858. The community was actually settled and grew after 1872, when it became a railroad division point. It is named for George Denison, a railroad executive. Population 23,884 (1980); 21,505 (1990); 22,773 (2000); 23,957 (2006).
