Densitometer
Encyclopedia Article
Densitometer, device for determining the degree of darkening of photographic film or other semitransparent objects, or for measuring the thickness of a film deposited on a surface. Most densitometers make use of a photoelectric cell. In the simplest, a light source is aimed at a photosensitive cell, readings are taken with and without the sample in place, and the density of the sample is derived from the difference in the readings.
