Everett (Massachusetts), industrial city, Middlesex County, eastern Massachusetts, on the Mystic and Malden rivers, near Boston; settled 1640s, separated from Malden 1870, incorporated as a city 1892. Manufactures include nonelectric machinery, electronic equipment, chemicals, paint, printed materials, fabricated metal, and processed food. The city is named for the orator and statesman Edward Everett. Population 37,195 (1980); 35,701 (1990); 38,037 (2000); 36,837 (2005 estimate).
