Fishers Island

Fishers Island, island, southeastern New York, at the entrance of Long Island Sound, near New London, Connecticut, and Long Island. Largely a summer resort area, the island forms parts of the town of Southold. Served by ferry from New London, it is covered with sparse vegetation and has several freshwater lakes. A U.S. Coast Guard station is here. Area, 1,600 hectares (4,000 acres).
