Tsushima, island group in southwestern Japan, in Korea Strait, administered as part of Nagasaki Prefecture. The islands are dry and rocky. The principal town is Izuhara, and the chief occupation is fishing. In 1905, during the Russo-Japanese War, most of the Russian fleet was destroyed or captured nearby. Area, 700 sq km (270 sq mi); population (1985) 48,875.
