Windows Live® Search Results Muir Woods National Monument, western California, near San Francisco, established 1908. It contains a virgin grove of redwood trees, some of which attain a height of 75 m (240 ft) and a diameter of 6 m (20 ft). The monument was named in honor of the American explorer and naturalist John Muir. Area, 224 hectares (554 acres). Reviewed by: National Park Service
