Marne (river)

Marne (river), river, northeastern France, rising south of Langres on the Langres Plateau, and flowing generally west until, after a course of 525 km (326 mi), it joins the Seine River near Paris. Château-Thierry, Épernay, Châlons-en-Champagne (formerly Châlons-sur-Marne), and Meaux are situated on its banks. During World War I two famous battles were fought near the Marne.
