Passamaquoddy, North American tribe of the Algonquian language family and of the Northeast culture area. They are part of the Abenaki confederacy. Most members of this tribe live near Passamaquoddy Bay, on the boundary between Maine and New Brunswick. In the 2000 U.S. census about 2,400 people identified themselves as Passamaquoddy only; an additional 1,100 people reported being part Passamaquoddy.
