Map of Cape Flattery

Cape Flattery, high promontory, northwestern Washington State, extending into the Pacific Ocean, at the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It was located by the British explorer and navigator Captain James Cook in 1778, on his last voyage. It was inhabited by the Makah people, who ceded all their lands to the federal government in 1855, except for the cape and a small adjacent area; a Makah reservation still occupies this land.
