Armory Show, art exhibition in New York City, February 17-March 15, 1913, at the 69th Regiment Armory. The international exhibition was the first major showing of modern art in the United States. It had a huge impact on the American public; over a quarter of a million people paid to see the exhibition, which first promoted an awareness of contemporary art in America. See American Art.
