Windows Live® Search Results Carson (river, California), river, western United States, rising on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in eastern California, and flowing generally northeast for 270 km (170 mi) into Nevada. Its several distributaries empty into the arid Carson Sink, a saline basin, and, to the south, into Carson Lake, which is periodically dry. Before the construction (1915) of the Lahontan Dam on the lower course, high waters in late spring would flood the Carson Sink, forming marshlands.
