Andros (The Bahamas), island, the Bahamas, in the Atlantic Ocean. The largest of the Bahamas, Andros is actually an archipelago 160 km (100 mi) long, traversed by several narrow channels. It has a large freshwater lake and the only river in the Bahamas, Goose River. The island is heavily forested, and timber is the major export. Area, 4,100 sq km (1,600 sq mi); population (1990) 8,155.
