North York, former city, formerly part of the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto, southern Ontario, on the Humber River; incorporated as a city 1979. North York is a residential and industrial community. Black Creek Pioneer Village, with approximately 30 buildings depicting the development of a Canadian farm community from the 1790s to the 1860s, is here. The township was established in 1922 and was designated a borough in 1967. In 1998 it was combined with five other municipalities to form a new City of Toronto.
