Kansas (river) or Kaw, river in eastern Kansas, formed by the confluence of the Smoky Hill and Republican rivers at Junction City. It flows in a generally easterly direction for 270 km (170 mi) to the adjoining cities of Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, where it joins the Missouri River. Other cities located along the river are Lawrence and Topeka.
