Ouachita, river, south central United States, rising in the Ouachita Mountains, western Arkansas, and flowing southeast into Louisiana. After a course of 974 km (605 mi) it joins the Red River, above the junction of the Red River and the Mississippi. From Jonesville, Louisiana, to the Red River, it is known locally as the Black River.
