Loyalty Islands, island group of New Caledonia and Dependencies (an overseas territory of France), located in the southern Pacific Ocean. The Loyalty Islands consist of three large islands (Maré, Lifou, and Ouvéa), and numerous small islands. Copra, rubber, and sugarcane are the chief exports. Total area, 1,980 sq km (760 sq mi); population (1989) 17,912.
