Harry Vardon (1870-1937), British golfer, for whom a trophy awarded annually by the Professional Golfers' Association of America for low-average scoring is named. He was born in Jersey, Channel Islands. He won the British Open championship in 1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1911, and 1914. He also won the U.S. Open championship in 1900 and in his lifetime was the victor in 62 different golf tournaments.
