Point Barrow, point, northern Alaska, the northernmost point of the United States, on the Arctic Ocean. It has been important in Arctic exploration and aviation. The city of Barrow is located to the southwest. The point was first sighted in 1826 by the British explorer Frederick W. Beechey, who named it for the British geographer Sir John Barrow.
