University of Missouri System, system of state-supported universities in Missouri. Founded in 1839, the system is governed by a nine-member board of curators. The four campuses form a single university with a president and staff, but the responsibilities of each campus are delegated to a campus chancellor. The system includes the University of Missouri-Columbia (founded in 1839) in Columbia, the University of Missouri-Kansas City (1929) in Kansas City, the University of Missouri-Rolla (1870) in Rolla, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis (1963) in St. Louis.
