Kuskokwim, river, Alaska, second longest in the state after the Yukon River. Its two major tributaries, the North Fork and the South Fork, rise in the Alaska Range in the south central part of the state. The river flows 1,170 km (724 mi) southwest to Kuskokwim Bay, an inlet of the Bering Sea. It is navigable for much of its length. More from Encarta
