Guy de Baliol (flourished 11th century), founder of the Anglo-Norman Baliol family, which played a prominent role in the history of medieval England and Scotland. Lord of Bailleul, near Alençon in Normandy (Normandie), he came to England as a follower of William the Conquerer in 1066. During the reign (1087-1100) of William's son, William II Rufus, he is said to have held the barony of Bywell on the River Tyne in Northumberland. His nephew Bernard founded the Scottish branch of the family. The name is also spelled Balliol.
