Chaudière, river of southern Québec, Canada, 190 km (120 mi) long. It begins at Lac Mégantic, near the Maine border, and flows north to the St. Lawrence River, opposite the city of Québec. Chaudière Falls (40 m/130 ft high) lies near the river's mouth and is the site of a hydroelectric facility. In 1776, the American general Benedict Arnold led his troops along the river in an attack on Québec during the American Revolutionary War.
