Wrangell Mountains

Wrangell Mountains, mountain range, southeastern Alaska, near the border with Yukon Territory. The highest peaks of these lofty volcanic mountains are Mount Bona (5,005 m/16,421 ft), Mount Blackburn (4,996 m/16,390 ft), and Mount Sanford (4,949 m/ 16,237 ft). In 1953, the University of Alaska and New York University established a cosmic-ray research station on Mount Wrangell (4,317 m/14,163 ft), another peak of the range.
