Mongoloid
Encyclopedia Article
Mongoloid, term once used by anthropologists to refer to a racial group that included the peoples of East Asia and Southeast Asia, and Native Americans (see Native Americans of North America; Native Americans of Middle and South America). The term refers to the East Asian region of Mongolia, whose inhabitants possessed physical features supposedly prototypical of the larger racial group. Anthropologists also used the term Mongolian to refer to a racial group; today Mongolian refers to a person from the country of Mongolia or to the Mongolian language.
