Ozark Plateau, heavily forested upland region, between the Missouri and Arkansas rivers, extending across southern Missouri, northern Arkansas, and into eastern Kansas and Oklahoma. The Ozark Plateau is also known as the Ozark Mountains or Ozarks. The highest elevations, many exceeding 610 m (2,000 ft), are in the Boston Mountains, in Arkansas. A scenic region with springs and underground streams, it became known for its forestry, agriculture, and lead and zinc mining industries.
