Shiloh, in the Old Testament, town of the tribe of Ephraim, mentioned as the first permanent resting place of the Tabernacle, or sacred shrine of the Israelite tribes, and the home of the judges Eli and Samuel. It was Jerusalem's predecessor as the religious center of ancient Israel. It was destroyed by the Philistines about 1050 bc. The site, called Saylon, is north of Jerusalem, in what is now the West Bank.
