Wigwam, dwelling that was used by Native Americans, chiefly by Algonquian tribes of the Northeast culture area. Generally larger than the conical tipi, the wigwam was constructed of an arched pole framework covered by bark, hides, or mats of reeds. Although usually dome-shaped, the huts were sometimes conical or rectangular. Small wigwams for single families were not uncommon.
