Weser
Encyclopedia Article
Weser, river, northwestern Germany, 439 km (273 mi) long, and formed by the confluence of the Werra and Fulda rivers. It flows generally northwest from Münden, in southeastern Lower Saxony, and empties into the North Sea southeast of Bremerhaven, forming a large estuary. The Weser is navigable throughout its course and is connected by canal with the Elbe, Rhine, and Ems Canal systems. Its chief tributaries are the Diemel, Hunte, and Aller.
