Oise (river), river, western Europe, rising in the Ardennes area of southern Belgium. It flows generally southwest through the French departments of Nord, Aisne, Oise, and Val-d’Oise, and Yvelines and enters the Seine River near Pontoise. It is 303 km (188 mi) long. In World War I French troops were heavily attacked on the Oise and the last great German effort was made in this area.
