Kattegat
Encyclopedia Article
Kattegat, strait, between the southwestern coast of Sweden and the eastern coast of the Jutland Peninsula, Denmark. It is connected to the North Sea on the northwest by the Skagerrak and to the Baltic Sea on the south by the Øresund and the Storebælt (Great Belt) and Lillebælt channels. The Kattegat varies from 60 to 160 km (40 to 100 mi) in width and is 225 km (140 mi) long.
