It rises in the northeast and flows generally southwest for a distance of 467 km (290 mi), emptying into Humboldt Sink. It drains an area of about 20,720 sq km (about 8000 sq mi). The river is unnavigable, and its waters evaporate rapidly from Humboldt Sink during dry seasons.
