Llano Estacado

Llano Estacado (English Staked Plain), southern portion of the Great Plains, covering an area of 91,000 sq km (35,000 sq mi) in western Texas and eastern New Mexico. It is a flat, semiarid region, with an average elevation of 1,000 m (3,300 ft). The region grew as a center for petroleum and natural-gas production. The relatively fertile land supports both dry and irrigated methods of farming.
