Sneferu, Egyptian king (reigned 2575-2551 BC), the first king of the 4th dynasty, also known as the Memphite dynasty. Sneferu is the earliest warrior king for whom extensive documents have been found; he led military adventures in Nubia, Libya, and the Sinai. Sneferu is thought to have built the first true pyramid, at Dashur. His son Khufu (Cheops) later oversaw the construction of the Great Pyramid at Giza.
