Louis Renault (1843-1918), French jurist and Nobel laureate, born in Autun. From 1883 to 1918 he taught international law at the universities of Paris and Dijon. He was a legal adviser to the ministry of foreign affairs from 1890 and was a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague in 1899 and 1907. He was also the arbitrator in some important international cases. He shared the 1907 Nobel Peace Prize with the Italian pacifist Ernesto Teodoro Moneta.
