Kings Canyon National Park

Kings Canyon National Park, east central California, established 1890. The park is located on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada range and contains giant sequoia trees, mountain wilderness, and deep canyons. The highest canyon wall in the United States rises a sheer 2,550 m (8,350 ft) from the South Fork of the Kings River in the park. In the granite mountains are glacial lakes, virgin forests, and alpine meadows. The park includes a noncontiguous section, General Grant Grove (called General Grant National Park from 1890 to 1940), with notable stands of sequoias. Sequoia National Park adjoins it to the south. Area, 186,925 hectares (461,901 acres).
