Cape Agulhas (Portuguese, “needles”), promontory in southwestern South Africa, in the province of Western Cape. It is the southernmost point of Africa. Fog, uncertain currents, and rocks make passage around the point dangerous for ships. The meridian of Cape Agulhas is used as the boundary between the Atlantic and Indian oceans.
