White (river, Arkansas and Missouri), river, south central United States. It rises about 80 km (about 50 mi) south of the Arkansas-Missouri line, flows north into Missouri, and then turns southeast and continues to southeastern Arkansas, where the channel divides, one stream entering the Arkansas River and the other the Mississippi. The tributaries are the Cache, Little Red, Black, Buffalo, James, and Norfolk rivers. The White is 1,160 km (722 mi) long.
