Edmond
Encyclopedia Article
Edmond, city, Oklahoma County, central Oklahoma, adjacent to Oklahoma City; settled 1889. It grew as an industrial center and as the site of a major oil field. Manufactures here have included processed food, petroleum products, industrial controls, glass and metal products, clothing, store fixtures, and furniture. Horse ranches are also abundant in the area. The University of Central Oklahoma (1890) is here. Population 34,637 (1980); 52,315 (1990); 68,315 (2000); 76,644 (2006).
