Article Outline
As a politician, Robert Bourassa was remarkably successful. After his 1976 defeat, he left the party leadership but was able to stage a remarkable political comeback. As premier, he was adept at balancing the concerns of competing social and linguistic groups in Québec, although he was not always successful. He is especially remembered for the dignified way in which he led Québec in the years following the failure of the Meech Lake Accord.
