Shrop·shire [ shróp shr, shrópshər ] county on the Welsh border in the Midlands, England. It is mainly agricultural, and was an early center of the iron industry. Shrewsbury is the county town.
Population: 283,173 (2001).
Area: 3,490 sq km (1,348 sq mi.)
