clot-stimulating dressing: a clot-stimulating dressing used to stop arterial bleeding. It contains chitosan, whose positive electrostatic charge offsets negatively charged red blood cells, or the blood-clotting factors fibrinogen and thrombin. These bandages can be placed whole into large wounds or in pieces into smaller wounds.
