tiny Central Asian predatory crustacean: a very small predatory crustacean, native to the Black, Caspian, Azov, and Aral seas but now naturalized in Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes, with long spiny fishhook-shaped tails several times the length of their bodies. They hook themselves together to form crystalline masses with the consistency of wet fiberglass, clogging fishnets and fishing lines. Latin name Cercopagis pengoi.
