Hicks·ite [ hík st ] (plural Hicks·ites)

member of Quaker group: a member of a religious group formed after an 1827-1828 schism involving Quakers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, and Maryland. The Hicksites placed emphasis on personal revelation rather than on the authority of elders.
