Fermat’s last theorem

Fer·mat's last the·o·rem

noun
Definition:

1. mathematical hypothesis: hypothesis about whole numbers proven about 330 years after Fermat conjectured it in the mid-17th century. The theorem holds that of whole numbers raised to the same whole-numbered powers greater than two, no two of them add to a third; that is, an+bn=cn has no solution in whole numbers if n > 2.

2. mathematical equation with limited solutions: a theorem stating that for the equation xn + yn = zn there are no integers x, y, z that satisfy the equation if n is an integer greater than 2
