| York·town [ yáwrk tòwn ] historic site in southeastern Virginia, situated on the York River near Chesapeake Bay. It was the site of the final battle of the Revolution and of the British general Cornwallis's surrender to George Washington on October 19, 1781, and of the earliest engagement of George McClellan's Peninsular Campaign during the Civil War in the spring of 1862. |
