| Klon·dike [ klón dk ] region of northwestern Yukon Territory, Canada, named for the Klondike River, which traverses it. After 1897, it was the site of a decade-long gold rush in which 30,000 prospectors streamed into the area. Gold was mined there until the mid-1960s. |
