Strat·ford [ strátfərd ]
1. city on the Avon River in southeastern Ontario, Canada. It is home to the annual Stratford Festival, founded in 1953 to present Shakespeare's plays and other arts events.
Population: 30,461 (2006).
2. town in southwestern Connecticut on Long Island Sound. It is a residential suburb of Bridgeport and a manufacturing center.
Population: 49,943 (2005 estimate).
