Nu·mid·i·a [ noo míddee ə ]former kingdom at the heart of the ancient Carthaginian empire in northwestern Africa, roughly equivalent to modern-day Algeria. It became a Roman province in 46 bc, was invaded by the Vandals in the 5th century ad, and was conquered by the Arabs in the 8th century.
